My ADHD Story
I was diagnosed with Adult ADHD in 2010. This diagnosis was a personal awakening which sparked new awareness and the motivation to make a positive change in myself.
As I started to explore my inner feelings and behaviors I gradually grew farther away from the not diagnosed boy that floated through life and into a much more mature man who learned to manage his ADHD symptoms.
My personal journey enlightened me in such a significant manner, I created the goal to make a career change into family therapy after spending 20 + years building a successful but minimally satisfying career as an environmental consultant.
Something that I can not have experienced without my learned ability of managing and directing my ADHD symptoms into work for me, instead of being controlled by my Adult ADHD symptoms.
How ADHD helps me be a good MFT Therapist

My interest and motivation for wanting to become a marriage and family therapist stem greatly from my late diagnosis and the creation of the awakening process I experienced. This very personal process included an immense amount of time spent on self-education and the incorporation of therapeutic methods through personal and group-based interactions. Since my Adult ADHD diagnosis, the hard work I have done has given me a truly positive and life-changing experience, for both myself and my family.
With this ability to manage my ADHD symptoms I earned a graduate degree from the Edgewood College MFT Program. The knowledge that I attained from Edgewood gave me opportunity to become not only a person with ADHD, but also a well-educated professional therapist with the ability to empathetically and competently assist others in achieving their own understanding and effective management their ADHD. In addition, my combined life span experiences and education have made me proficient in treating those disorders typically found to co-exist with ADHD, such as anxiety, depression, anger management, marital distress, and substance abuse.
